Bringing Music to the People

Graham Carter – Thursday 14 Jun 2018

Born in Poole, Dorset in 1970, Graham Carter grew up in a musical household as his mother is an accomplished Pianist. He began to play Acoustic guitar in 1987, taking up the Harmonica soon afterwards.

Early influences included the likes of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Lennon/McCartney and The Dubliners. Through his job, he would often visit different towns and would always take the guitar along with him….usually entertaining groups of colleagues and members of the public alike in the Hotel bar in the evenings. He considers that this was a kind of apprenticeship in performing to an audience.

In 2006 he moved north to his wifes’ native Scotland where he soon began to attend a local Folk Club. He quickly became a popular performer at the club and soon found himself performing his first “paid” gig at the age of 40. Since then, Graham has received more and more bookings at Clubs & Festivals. In August 2011 he was asked to appear on Celtic Music Radio as a featured artist on The Mary Kathleen Burke show where he performed several of his own songs live on air. Equally at home singing well known Standards, tragic Child Ballads, Sea-Shantys, Negro Spirituals, Blues or his own compositions in the Traditional style he has an uncanny knack of pleasing an audience which stands him in very good stead for the future.
