The Circumnavigation cycle of pieces tell the whole story – in 1519, Magellan set sail with a fleet of 5 ships and 260 men to look for a sea passage linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Bob’s songs tell of this epic undertaking – exotic places visited and the life, trials and tribulations of the crew. On a more personal level, some songs give us an insight into the hearts, thoughts, yearnings and love of a sailor and Magellan, and their wives left onshore.
Coming Home is surely one of the greatest love songs ever written and could be sung about any couple in any century, separated by war or adventure. The songs are sublime, the lyrics and melodies beautifully penned, bringing each episode to life when sung and played by Bob and Lee.
